In Toni en Famille, Camille Cottin plays a mother with a large family who wants to change her life. Nathan Ambrosioni's film is due in cinemas this Wednesday, September 6.
A former singing star, now forgotten, Toni sings in bars at night, because she has to feed her five children. But this has never been her dream, and at 43, she can't take it anymore. And as her two eldest children prepare to enter university, Toni wonders: what will she do when all her offspring have left home? At 43, is there still time to get on with her life?
Right from the brilliant opening scene, Toni en Famille sets the scene. As much as Toni adores her children, life as a single mother of five is no picnic: you have to deal with each one's character, think of everything, overconsume to feed everyone, and spend thousands of euros every month on the bare essentials. And of course, each of the children has his or her own set of problems that paralyze them. It's all the result of intense frustration on the part of every member of the family, who is not only not listened to, but also not given the space to express themselves.
It's all very tender, and in the awkwardness of each, there are some touching moments. Toni en Famille is a great, popular film that will appeal to all ages. Moving, and served by an impeccable cast, led by Camille Cottin, but where each child impresses with his or her talent. It's one of the season's must-sees.
