After a long wait, it's finally here: Starfield was released on September 6, 2023. We take a look at what you need to know about this gargantuan software, available on PC and Xbos Series.

Finally, something new for Starfield! Five years after its announcement with great fanfare, following a trailer unveiled at Summer Game Fest in 2022 and a new, more detailed appearance at the Xbox Game Show case on June 11, Bethesda Softworks ' Starfield is back in the news on August 22, 2023, at Gamescom 2023, with a dazzling new live-action trailer!

Also note that the game went gold on August 16, as announced by the publisher on Twitter, much to the delight of fans!

In terms of gameplay, Bethesda has thought big, as thousands of planets can be visited, with each solar system forming part of a larger system. When it comes to customizing your avatar, the software seems to be taking functionality to the extreme, with an astronomical number of faces and builds, allowing you to do - pretty much - whatever you want! Choice of skills, character traits... Choose your attributes carefully too, as they could save the day in certain situations.

Ships, companions, space flight, space combat... So many other features to discover in the trailer, but we'll let you discover that above, to keep you a few surprises!

What's the story? It all begins on the planet Kreet, where your ship lands. You play the role of a space miner who has joined Constellation, humanity's last group of explorers. In terms of game mechanics, those accustomed to Bethesda 's softs shouldn't be out of their element, as they follow the same codes as the studio's other softs, such as Fallout 4 and Fallout 76. It's also just what you'd expect, graphically speaking, using the same engine as the studio's previous games.

Like Bethesda's other titles, the game can be played in both first and third person. There's also a well-stocked skill tree, as well as a whole host of laser-gathered materials for crafting equipment. A map that's also thinking big, since according to the developers, it will include 100 systems to visit, for a total of 1,000 planets.

An ambition that could pose a problem... And with good reason: like No Man Sky, which uses the same codes, the planets could be generated procedurally. What does this mean? That they could all look the same, both in terms of their ecosystem and the resources and missions to be discovered... Which could quickly bore players. All that remains is to wait for the game's release on PC and Xbox on September 6, 2023, to contradict the bad tongues!

Our opinion:

It's a game that divides: Starfield disappointed many Bethesda afficionados, while others found it a means of expressing their creativity and fulfilling their childhood dreams. So what are we to make of this long-awaited title?

Starfield isn't exceptional, but it's far from being the failure it's made out to be. This title is quite unique, with a mood and atmosphere in keeping with the game's theme: in the infinity of space, we feel small, humanity begins a new chapter in its history... This leads to some philosophical questions that you might not expect. But this depth serves the Hollywood-style script well.

Bethesda's game is also very beautiful, seducing space and astronomy enthusiasts from the outset. Explore unusual and distant planets, build your own spaceship, sail through space... What a feast for the eyes, what a sensation! Theimmersion is strong enough to make us believe, for a moment, that we are real astronauts.

However, it's true that Starfield may not be to everyone's taste. The first drawback is that the game is long. Very long. To progress through the main story, to see the plot unfold bit by bit, you need to be patient. And this patience is also required during the learning phase: the game is not necessarily easy to pick up and master. Nevertheless, this long lifespan also has its advantages: the price of the game is not negligible, but for around 80 euros, you can immerse yourself for a long time in this extraordinary universe.

Exploration, resource gathering, customization, career... This game is a real goldmine for those who like to ignore the main quest, and wander from one corner of the map to another in search of all the activities available.

The most annoying aspect of the game, for us, remains the interface and menus, which aren't very intuitive. Also worth noting: if you're playing on a PC, make sure your computer is powerful enough to support the game. Lags and graphical flaws can easily put you off your adventure.

So, if you're looking to get into Starfield, forget Bethesda's other games, and enjoy this title for what it is. A lovely dream that requires a little commitment and perseverance.
