What if your moral compass was the only weapon against a corporatist empire at war? Obsidian Entertainment has unveiled a new trailer for The Outer Worlds 2 at Gamescom 2025, scheduled for release on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series on October 29, 2025. This new episode promises an ambitious and satirical galactic adventure, faithful to the spirit of the first opus. Available from launch on Xbox Game Pass, the game will also be compatible with Xbox Play Anywhere.
The Outer Worlds 2 reinforces its RPG identity with revised gameplay mechanics and more dynamic exploration. Arcadia, the main planet, can now be explored by sprinting, jumping, parkouring and using a third-person camera to admire your character and equipment. The traits and flaws system evolves according to play style: " Do you fly a bit too much? We could offer you the Kleptomaniac trait, which allows you to resell your loot at a better price, but with a risk: you could trigger an automatic theft just by laying eyes on an object," explains a press release. Factional warfare and the player's moral decisions also influence the environment and the balance of power in real time.
With its six companions (Niles, Inez, Aza, Marisol, Tristen and Valerie), all of whom have personal quests and strong opinions, The Outer Worlds 2 will appeal to fans of branching narratives and influential dialogue choices. Gamers fond of science fiction, political irony and social criticism will find the same caustic spirit as in Fallout New Vegas. The game once again examines power, corporations and mass manipulation through well-oiled satire.
The three main factions - militarized utopians, corporate cultists and prophetic scientists - embody different visions of the future, each driven by its own ideals, propaganda and music. The universe is reactive: " You'll witness the war in real time: cities change hands, radio stations alter their tone, and the whole world reacts to your choices ", according to a press release. A way of placing the player at the heart of a living, changing and, above all, unpredictable world.
Another original feature is Arcadia's ubiquitous radio stations, whose programs reflect the player's choices according to an oriented editorial line. Some stations will praise you, others will make you a public enemy. An "information war" that adds an extra dimension to narrative immersion. This mechanism reinforces the complexity of the world and makes every decision visible on a societal scale.
Finally, The Outer Worlds 2 offers a €100 premium edition, including 5-day early access and two future narrative expansions. While European gamers are already familiar with the €80 price tag, " The Outer Worlds 2 will be the first Xbox Game Studios game to sell for $80, regardless of platform ", says the press release.
