The Musée du Louvre celebrates its 230th anniversary, with an astonishing program of artistic and contemporary events to discover without delay. We tell you all about it.

Located in the heart of Paris, the Musée du Louvre amazes tourists and lifelong Parisians alike. The famous museum has a history as rich as its collections... But did you know that it wasn't always an art center? In fact, the Louvre was transformed into a museum 230 years ago: to celebrate this very special anniversary, a festive program is being organized.

Between 2023 and 2030, the famous Parisian institution has organized various events, meetings, exhibitions, partnerships... The museum aims to bridge the gap between past and present, by giving pride of place to contemporary artists. These creators aim to help us rediscover the Louvre, its architecture, its history and its treasures, as if we'd never seen them before. Quite a challenge, and one that should yield surprising results...

Of course, the Musée du Louvre invites us to join in the festivities: find out more about the program of events and the highlights to come. For more details on each of these events, and to book your tickets, visit the museum's official website.

  • LES HÔTES DU LOUVRE
    December 2023 - June 2025
The museum reconnects with its past as an artist's studio by inviting two leading figures in contemporary creation, who experienced their revelation as artists at the museum. Kader Attia and Elizabeth Peyton will take up residence in a studio in the palace, and participate in all its programming.

  • DIALOGUES D'ARTISTES AU LOUVRE
    Les conversations du Louvre
To mark the reissue of Pierre Schneider's Dialogues du Louvre, the museum has invited Hans Ulrich Obrist to take up the thread of history. The critic and curator invited 11 contemporary artists from different generations to take a personal stroll through the museum's aisles. Kader Attia, Daniel Buren, Barbara Chase-Riboud, Julien Creuzet, Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster, Simone Fattal, Sheila Hicks, Anselm Kiefer, Lee Ufan, Annette Messager, Philippe Parreno, give us a glimpse of "their museum", and transmit to us the urgent desire to return to the Louvre, and follow them there. Each artist has defined his or her own itinerary, and offers his or her own account of art and heritage, evoking the museum spaces that still capture their admiration today.
From October 14 to December 9, 2023, every Saturday at 11 a.m.: artist visits
Les Paroles du Louvre: podcast by Phonomaton, produced by Anaël Pigeat and broadcast on the museum's various platforms.
  • PATRIMONIAL CREATION
Jean-Marie Appriou is inspired by the origins of the museum to create a new work, Constellation du Louvre, on sale in the bookshop-boutique.

Don't miss this unique opportunity to explore the rich history of the Musée du Louvre and discover how it continues to reinvent itself through the contemporary artists it welcomes.
