Founded by the Abbasids in 762, Madinat al-Salam was long the capital of the Islamic empire. On the banks of the Tigris River, this great circular city was nicknamed "the city of peace". A city of commerce, power, scientific advances and research, art and culture, Madinat al-Salam lies beneath the foundations of Baghdad, destroyed by the Mongols in 1258.
This world-city disappeared many centuries ago, but its history and riches continue to fascinate experts and enthusiasts alike. How can you learn more about a ghost town?
Ubisoft and theInstitut du Monde Arabe have teamed up to take us on a journey to this lost city. Thanks to the sets, map and scenes imagined for Assassin's Creed Mirage, theIMA invites us to discover this city and the civilization it once sheltered.
From February 28 to November 10, 2024, the IMA unveils Baghdad: Rediscovering Madinat al-Salam, with Assassin's Creed Mirage, a brand-new exhibition that blends video game and history, to discover a little-known Baghdad.
Images, sounds and videos taken from the Assassin's Creed Mirage game, as well as interviews with historians, preparatory drawings made for the creation of the game and objects from theInstitute 's collectionmake up the itinerary of this exhibition. Artists and scientists contribute to bringing this vanished city back to life, to educate the general public, while retaining a playful aspect.
The exhibition covers five themes: the round city, religions, administration and politics, arts and culture, and science and technology.
