Like every other département in the Paris region, Val-de-Marne is preparing to host the Olympic torch relay. In 94, the date is Sunday July 21, 2024. And for this exceptional day, the département has thought big. To make sure you don't miss any of the stages of this historic event, find out more about the towns and sites along the route, as well as the various timetables.

The Val-de-Marne has planned an exceptional route highlighting its emblematic sites as well as sport, in a department that boasts no fewer than 15 national and even Olympic federations, 2,000 clubs and 260,000 members. As it's not every day that the flame passes through your department, it would be a shame not to admire and support the torchbearers as they go.

It's on Sunday, July 21, 2024 , that Val-de-Marne will shine internationally as it takes part in the Olympic Torch Relay, the emblematic event that precedes the opening of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Here's the detailed route the flame will take through the département, marking a day rich in symbols and festivities:

  • 8:00 am: An international start at Paris-Orly airport
    The Olympic flame will make its spectacular entrance into Val-de-Marne at 8:00 am at Paris-Orly airport, symbolizing openness to the world and marking the start of its journey through the département.

  • Château d'Ormesson: a historic site
    After Orly, the flame will head for Château d'Ormesson, a historic site that bears witness to local architecture and history, before continuing through Chennevières, Saint-Maur and Champigny, highlighting the cultural heritage of these communes.

  • 10:00 am: A gastronomic moment at MIN de Rungis
    At 10:00 am, the relay will make a significant stop at the Rungis International Market. A giant breakfast, open on registration, will highlight French gastronomy, an essential part of the department's culture and economy.

  • River route in Joinville
    Continuing its journey, the flame will pass through Vincennes, Fontenay-sous-Bois, Nogent and finally Joinville, where it will embark on a rowing boat. This river segment along the Marne will highlight the department's nautical activities and its investment in making sports accessible to all.

  • École Nationale Vétérinaire d'Alfort and Domaine de Grosbois
    In mid-afternoon, the flame will reach the world-renownedÉcole Nationale Vétérinaire d'Alfort, followed by a visit to the Domaine de Grosbois. These sites illustrate the marriage between education, culture and nature that is key to the Val-de-Marne region.

  • Visit the Institut Gustave Roussy and the MAC VAL
    The flame will also visit theInstitut Gustave Roussy, Europe's leading cancer treatment center, and the MAC VAL (Musée d'Art Contemporain du Val-de-Marne), reflecting the region's artistic vitality.

  • 7:30 pm: Grand Finale in Créteil
    The route ends at 7:30 pm in Créteil with the lighting of the Olympic cauldron, a symbolic act of peace and unity. This will mark the end of an eventful day, which will have passed through a variety of emblematic sites, reflecting the diversity and richness of the Val-de-Marne region.
