Yórgos Lánthimos returns once again to the Cannes Film Festival 2024 to present Kinds of Kindness, in world premiere and Official Competition. This is the fourth film by the Greek director and screenwriter Efthimis Filippou to compete at the festival. In 2009, he won the Un Certain Regard prize with Canine, then the Jury Prize in 2015 with The Lobster. Two years later, in 2017, he left the Croisette with the Best Screenplay prize in his pocket for his film Mise à mort du cerf sacré.
Kinds of Kindness is a triptych fable that follows: a man with no choices who tries to take control of his own life; a policeman worried because his wife who disappeared at sea has returned and seems a different person; and a woman determined to find a very specific person with a special power, destined to become a prodigious spiritual leader.
The cast includes Emma Stone, Yórgos Lánthimos' favorite actress, Jesse Plemons, Willem Dafoe, Margaret Qualley (also in Official Competition forCoralie Fargeat's The Substance) and Hunter Schafer. The film is due in French cinemas on June 26, 2024.
