TheHôtel de la Marine is used to transporting us into new worlds, with its period balls. This time, on April 27, the monument invites us to dance to Creole rhythms. This Saturday, take part in the free bal kréyol and discover the Caribbean dances of the 19th century.
The main courtyard of the Hôtel de la Marine comes alive with songs played by the 10 musicians of the Difé Kako company. To the rhythm of this music, 50 dancers put on a dynamic and joyful show, introducing us to the quadrille, the haute taille, the Creole mazurka... Do you feel like dancing when you see this show? Good news: you can join the professional dancers on the dance floor for a fun, participatory dance. It's your turn to shine!
This bal kréyol is organized as part of the event Le Temps des mémoires, to be discovered on the weekend of April 27 and 28, 2024. This traveling exhibition tells the story of slavery and its abolition in France, and is accompanied by several events open to the public.
The ball is therefore an opportunity to (re)discover 19th-century Creole culture, while learning more about the history of Caribbean peoples.
Please note that the event may be cancelled due to adverse weather conditions. Traditional costumes are not required to attend the ball. Will you be dancing?
