Every year, more and more frescoes by talented urban artists cover the façades of buildings in the capital. The 13th arrondissement, for example, has become a favorite spot for many street artists, including Seth, Shepard Fairey and Inti. Events are also regularly organized in Paris, each time revealing the creativity of these wildly talented artists.
This winter, it's time for " L'équipée ", a new artistic event with Portuguese-born self-taught artist L'Empreinte Jo V at the helm. Known for his works depicting the faces of children, women and men, both famous and anonymous, and often marked with a little red heart, L'Empreinte Jo V has already exhibited at Lavo//Matik. Several of his frescoes can also be found on Paris walls, as at Spot 13.
This winter, L'Empreinte Jo V announces an unusual collective street art event called"L'équipée". To be discovered over two weekends in a row, on February 3 and 4 and February 10 and 11, 2024, the event unveils the frescoes of some twenty emerging and well-known street artists. Among these artists, already followed by many urban art enthusiasts, are Louyz, Andrew Wallas, Francesca Sangiorgi, Tegmo, Last3, Akelo, les Poulpeuses, Poulain, not forgetting Demoiselle MM, whom L'Empreinte Jo V would like to thank. "I'd like to thank Demoiselle MM for suggesting my name to the owner. She has passed on the torch to me and shown her confidence in the continuity of the spirit of 104, but with my personal touch," he confided.
Emerging artists include Maca, Diane, aubi__art, Todd Artnoz and 2li. Aged just 21, the young artist is creating her very first fresco in Paris for"L'équipée". A fascinating work created entirely with spray paint. And of course, this artistic event is also an opportunity to (re)discover the work of L'Empreinte Jo V with several works, one of which is rather unusual for the artist... but we won't tell you more!
Selected by L'Empreinte Jo V, these urban artists were given carte blanche to create the works they wished, and above all to please themselves and the eyes of future visitors. So, where should you go to admire these urban works of"L'équipée"? After revealing that it was a bar located " in the suburbs close to Paris ", and easily accessible by metro, L'Empreinte Jo V has finally lifted the veil on the exact address of this playground. To find out, head for Les Nouveaux Sauvages in Montreuil, a stone's throw from the Croix de Chavaux metro station (line 9).
For the record, this bar used to be a delicatessen and then a Chinese restaurant. Unfortunately, part of the restaurant went up in smoke following a fire. Today, the establishment has a new look, and the new owner - an urban art enthusiast - has called on the talents of some twenty street artists to decorate the walls and turn it into an"underground" bar.
We had the chance to preview the premises and the various frescoes created for the occasion, scattered both on the first floor and in the basement. At the entrance, an imposing work by Louyz greets customers. On the same level, we discover other beautiful frescoes by Demoiselle MM, Akelo and Last3. In the basement, we find a different ambience, with the common feature of numerous women's faces painted on the walls. The result? The space has been renamed the " salle des regards". The techniques (stencil, spray, felt-tip, paint...) and styles (illustration, realistic...) are different. The result is an eye-popping success. "L'équipée" even has a little surprise in store, with phosphorescent paint and a few works that light up when the lights go out. Stay tuned for more photos from the event.
To admire all these frescoes, don't miss"L'équipée", to be discovered free of charge during this last weekend, on Saturday February 10 and Sunday February 11 from 12pm to 6pm. For the occasion, the street artists will meet the public and create small live works on the front of the bar. And if you're not available at the time, don't worry: the works won't be destroyed and will remain engraved on the walls of the Les Nouveaux Sauvages bar.
There's no doubt that this new event dedicated to urban art will arouse the curiosity of many street art lovers in Paris!
