Located in the Marais district of Paris, the Swedish Institute regularly organizes cultural events. Take advantage of Nuit des Musées, this Saturday, May 18, 2024, to discover these exciting events!

A little piece of Sweden in Paris: that's what you'll find behind the doors of the Hôtel de Marle, home to theSwedish Institute and its charming garden, in the heart of the capital.

This place of culture is well worth a visit: its facades, its roofs, known as "à la Philibert Delorme" (semi-circular with a counter-curve at the ridge) and its grand staircase are listed as Monuments Historiques. The Institut also showcases rich collections of Swedish artists and Franco-Swedish links.

Of course, it's impossible to talk about the Institut without mentioning its verdant garden, sheltered from the hustle and bustle of Paris, and its classical bronze statues.

So don't hesitate: this Saturday, May 18, 2024, during the 20th Nuit des Musées, you can travel effortlessly (as far as the Marais district) to discover this beautiful Nordic country. You'll be able to take advantage of the various events organized by the Swedish Institute, while learning and having fun thanks to the many talented artists featured during this nocturne.

On the program for this Nuit des Musées 2024 at the Swedish Institute:

  • Self-guided tour of the Swedish Institute
    Saturday, May 18, 12:00 noon

Located in the heart of the Marais district, the Hôtel de Marle, named after its first owner in the 16th century, has been home to the Swedish Institute since 1971. Its facades, its semi-circular "Philibert Delorme" roof with counter-curve at the ridge, and its grand staircase are listed as Monuments Historiques. Its remarkable French-style painted ceilings are not to be outdone.

As for our permanent art collection, the Institut Tessin collection, it bears witness to Franco-Swedish artistic relations from the 17th to the 20th century, with gems such as works by Gustaf Lundberg, Alexander Roslin, Adolf Ulrik Wertmüller and Louis-Jean Desprez.

You'll also have the opportunity to discover our temporary exhibition, Following the Waves, which brings together Lars Fredrikson, a major 20th-century artist, and two contemporary artists, Anastasia Ax and Christine Ödlund. Although they are apparently very different artists, there are many points of contact between them: all three practice bold, experimental art that moves freely in a wide field of expressions, and all three share a fascination for the way energy moves, transforms and manifests itself in different materials, as well as for the way communication is established between different forms of life and state.

  • Guided tours of the "Following the waves" exhibition
    Saturday, May 18, 3:00 pm

An unmissable cultural event, European Museum Night is an opportunity to discover the Swedish Institute's temporary exhibitions, with guided tours that follow the course of the sun, from daylight to night, shrouded in the mystery of the ages.
