Created in 1984 by the French Ministry of Culture, the Journées du Patrimoine (Heritage Days) have become a not-to-be-missed event for lovers of history and heritage. Every year, the event gives the general public the chance to discover monuments, historic sites and institutions that are usually closed or subject to admission fees, free of charge. In Paris and throughout France, these days are an opportunity to immerse yourself in the country's history through guided tours, exhibitions andevents. They take place every year on the third weekend in September, offering a great opportunity to (re)discover France's cultural treasures.
For the2025 edition, organized on September 20 and 21, many emblematic sites in Paris and the Île-de-France region will be opening their doors. These include the Pantheon, the Sainte-Chapelle and theOpéra Garnier in Paris. In the Île-de-France region, visitors can explore the Château de Versailles, the Basilique Saint-Denis and the Domaine de Rambouillet. The program also includes themed tours, children's workshops and conferences, so there's something for everyone.
Among the jewels to be discovered during the Journées du Patrimoine 2025, the Château de Rambouillet is a destination not to be missed. Located on the edge of the Rambouillet forest, the château has been the residence of numerous French sovereigns and presidents. With its formal gardens, the estate has been designed in the style of an English park, punctuated by ponds, with beautiful garden nuggets such as the Laiterie de la Reine and the Chaumière aux coquillages.

For the European Heritage Days, the Château de Rambouillet is opening its doors free of charge all weekend long! Take the opportunity to (re)visit the Château, its gardens, the Laiterie de la Reine and the Chaumière aux coquillages! A great program to explore the theme of "Architectural Heritage"!
Activities on the program
------------------------------
Rambouillet is an absolutely unique château! Successive princes, kings, emperors and presidents have transformed it, giving birth to this monument of unusual, heterogeneous and surprising architecture. Open your eyes wide and let the façades and decorations tell you all about the history of the place. Guides are placed at strategic points along the tour route to sharpen your eye throughout.
### Discovering the profession of architect
Meeting (10am-12pm)
Who better than an architect to talk about architecture? Antoine Tchydemian-Meyer has been commissioned by the château to design superb axonometries from 2023 onwards, and will share with you the challenges of his work to help you understand the architectural evolution of this unusual monument.
### The Ambassadors' JEP
Activities offered by Château volunteers
During your visit, don't be surprised if you come face to face with...François Ier! Or Suzanne Guiguichon, a decorator from the 1950s, or a royal guard waiting patiently for the King! The château's volunteers, our famous "Ambassadeurs", have concocted a very unusual discovery for you! There's only one question: will you be able to send everyone back to their own time? At the end of the tour, take advantage of the "Family Corner" stands designed by the volunteers: giant coloring pages and a variety of games for young and old alike.
