Death Stranding 2 shows itself again... Kojima Productions has unveiled a release date and a new trailer for the sequel to its 2019 game, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, at the SXSW event (March 7-15, 2025). Entitled Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, it stars Norman Reedus as Sam Porter Bridges, a delivery man transporting equipment from zone to zone, in a post-apocalyptic universe. Join us on PS5 on June 26, 2025 to discover the new adventures of the parcel delivery man!
Originally presented at the Game Awards, the game finds Sam, along with Fragile, in what appears to be their home, in the company of a BB who no longer lives in his "amniotic sac". Sam is expected to travel beyond known borders and continue his mission. The cast of Death Stranding 2 is a heavyweight affair, with Norman Reedus, but also Léa Seydoux (in the role of Fragile), Troy Baker and Elle Fanning.
According to jeuxvideo.com, the game is likely to be a PS5 exclusive. Whether this will be a temporary or permanent exclusivity was not announced at the Games Awards. Kojima Productions and Sony also took advantage of the State of Play to announce the future release of a spy game called " target="_blank">PHYSINT
Our opinion :
First of all, do you need to have played the first game to enjoy the second? In our opinion, yes. Death Stranding's universe, scenario and approach are so particular that it can be difficult to grasp if you don't follow it from the start. Nevertheless, we applaud the recap, which gives you an overview of what happened in the first chapter without spoiling the adventure.
Death Stranding plunges us into a world that follows its own logic, which is quite (and pleasantly) disconcerting, and this atmosphere continues in this second opus too. The downside of this originality is that there's a lot of text and cinematics, which sometimes tend to over-contextualize, giving the impression of losing fluidity. Given the complexity of the universe, this is justified.
In terms of gameplay, the basic concept is broadly the same, with players finding their bearings once again. The interfaces have been significantly improved, with shortcuts that make cargo management easier - a point that could have been frustrating in the first game. For example, you can now optimize your cargo with just two keystrokes.
As for the storyline, while Death Stranding already stood out from the crowd, in this second installment, we sense a gain in confidence that pushes boldness even further, with even more imaginative characters. We won't tell you more about the adventure, whose metaphorical universe should appeal to gamers in search of a work that breaks the codes.
