For an unusual outing for lovers or families, head for the Yvelines and the Butterfly Greenhouse in La-Queue-lez-Yvelines, the very first tropical jungle in France to welcome these majestic insects! And since this year, discover also a pretty luminescent forest, to feel like in the movie Avatar! You will have to be patient to enjoy the 700 butterflies that live in this unusual jungle, near Paris, and even if they land on you, don't touch them!
The greenhouse exists since 1989, invented by Mr Poullain, owner of the eponymous garden centers. You have to go through the one of La-Queue-Lez-Yvelines to reach the space reserved for the butterflies, which extends on nearly 1000m2. It is the only tropical jungle in the Ile-de-France region where exoticbutterflies can be seen, and one of the only ones in France, quite different from that of the Parc Floral. You can observe, in addition to huge lepidopterans, much larger than those in our gardens, moths, chrysalises, but also adorable Chinese quail and countless flowers and rare plants. It's 28 degrees in the greenhouse, with nearly 80% humidity, so be sure not to overcover!
This luxuriant environment is ideal to help children discover the fragility of these insects and their ecosystem. It's also an opportunity to marvel at all the shimmering colors, whether you're a child or an adult. Take your time in the different areas of the greenhouse to observe as many butterflies as possible and engrave the image of their fairy-like swarms in your memory.
About 40 kilometers from the capital, within reach of Navigo, you can enjoy a dazzling natural spectacle and the new discovery spaces of the Serre aux Papillons. After having admired so much beauty, we dive into the dark to learn more about luminescence and the action of plants that reflect light, and that will be able to naturally illuminate the cities of tomorrow. The Serre aux Papillons closes every year on December 4, to reopen around Valentine's Day. It is possible to come and organize your child's birthday party, and to enjoy group workshops, only on weekends, starting at 3pm.
