Good news for music lovers, as the Fête de la Musique returns to Paris, and everywhere else, on June 21, 2023! This year, the Fête de la Musique celebrates its 41st anniversary. The first Fête de la Musique was launched in 1982 on the initiative of the French Ministry of Culture. That year, the Ministry of Culture's studies and research department conducted a major survey of French cultural practices. It revealed that five million people, including one young person in two, play a musical instrument.
So Jack Lang, architect and scenographer Christian Dupavillon, a member of his Cabinet, and Maurice Fleuret came up with the idea of a major popular event to enable all musicians to express themselves and make themselves known. The very first Fête de la Musique was launched on June 21, 1982, the symbolic day of the summer solstice.
This year, to mark the 41st edition of the Fête de la Musique, the Place de la Bastille in Paris will be hosting an unusual Japanese drum concert. Visit on Wednesday June 21, 2023 from 8pm to 9pm, on the central reservation opposite N°6 Boulevard Richard-Lenoir, to discover this Japanese drum show. Still relatively unknown in France, this musical practice gives off a powerful visual and auditory energy.
This original and powerful concert will be performed by the Tsunagari Taiko Center school of Japanese drumming andAwa Odori (a summer dance), and is scheduled to last an hour, so don't be late. It's an opportunity for the students of this rather special musical school to share their passion, joy and dynamism.
Audiences of all ages will be able to discover this unusual instrument, an undeniable invitation to travel. So, are you ready to set sail for Japan? Join us on June 21, 2023 at the Place de la Bastille in Paris to dance to the rhythm of Japanese drums and celebrate the 41st Fête de la Musique in an original way.
