It's one of those events we love to come back to every year. It's one of the most popular traditional festivals in France. For a whole day, it brings together music lovers and musicians around their shared passion. As you've probably guessed, I'm talking about the famous and inescapable Fête de la Musique.
This popular music event is back on June 21, once again with a host of musical tre ats of all kinds.
For the record, the Fête de la Musique was launched in France in 1982 with the aim of giving budding musicians a chance to express themselves and make a name for themselves. Since then, every June 21, amateur and professional musicians alike take to the streets - and many other places, such as parks and gardens, bars and restaurants, and museums - to bring live music to life in free concerts.
And every time, eclecticism is the order of the day, giving pride of place to rock, rap, classical music, world music, jazz, blues, electro and French variety.
As ever, there's no shortage of good music in Paris, with free concerts scheduled in Place de la Bastille, La Villette, République, the Latin Quarter and Butte Montmartre. But there are also plenty of concerts elsewhere in the Paris region, some of them featuring major artists. If you're planning to get away from the capital to celebrate this new 42nd Fête de la Musique, here are the not-to-be-missed concerts on June 21, 2024, within easy reach of your Navigo pass and less than 30 minutes from Paris.
