After Yvelines, now the capital city sees the obligation of wearing a facemask outdoor halted by the law. The measure has been found illegal by Paris administrative court, and the latter asked the police prefecture to make a prefectorial decree fitting the health situation better. This Monday January 17, 2022, the authorities have instated new measures.
Outdoor facemask-wearing is then compulsory again in Paris streets, but limited to some specific areas:
- Markets, flea markets, garage sales, sale on temporary premises
- Gatherings, protests, meetings, or any activity gathering 10+ people, held in the street
- Waiting areas in public transit, especially bus and tramway stops and their immediate vicinity
- Around railway stations and entrances to shopping malls at opening hours
- Around schools or colleges, at opening and closing hours
- Around places of workship at opening and closing hours during services and ceremonies
- Queues in the public area
The measure is to be spread to the entire Île-de-France, similar decrees having been made in each department. For the record, compulsory outdoor facemask-wearing was back since December 31, 2021, following the governmental announcements faced with the new surge in the coronavirus epidemic. The measure was to mostly apply to main cities, but eventually spread to almost the entire Île-de-France, the region being very badly hit by the epidemic surge, especially because of the spread of the Omicron variant.
