The Musée de la Poste opened its doors for the very first time on June 4, 1946, in the heart of theHôtel de Choiseul-Praslin, in the 6th arrondissement of Paris. The museum originally housed a collection of postage stamps. The museum moved to the Necker district, in the 15th arrondissement, in a brand-new, larger space built between 1969 and 1972. The inauguration took place a year later, in 1973, in the presence ofHubert Germain, Minister of the Post Office. The museum reopened in 2019, after several years of renovation.

Today, the museum showcases the history of the post office, as well as large collections of stamps. These astonishing collections may well surprise you: there are overa million philatelic items, more than 200,000 images, 37,000 works and objects illustrating the history and professions of La Poste from the Middle Ages to the present day, 30,000 printed works and 800 magazine titles, not forgetting a collection of mail art andcontemporary art .
