A great occasion to discover the universe of stamp! As part of the 18th edition of Museums Night, on Saturday May 14, 2022, the Musée de la Poste proposes late-night tours of its permanent collections. Come and discover the story and diversity of this uncommon museum.
The Musée de la Poste opens for the first time on June 4, 1946, in the heart of Hôtel de Choiseul-Praslin, in Paris 6th arrondissement. A museum that first proposed a whole collection of stamps. It moved to the Necker area, in the 15th arrondissement, into a bigger place built between 1969 and 1972. The inauguration is held a year later, in 1973, with Post Minister Hubert Germain. The museum reopens in 2019, after several years of renovations.
Today, one can discover the history of the post office, and major stamp collections. Surprising collections likely to blow you away: one million of philatelic pieces, over 200,000 pictures, 37,000 works and items illustrating the history and trade of the post office, from the Middle Ages to nowadays, 30,000 printed works, and 800 magazine covers, without forgetting a collection of mail art and contemporary art.
