After a White Night 2020 very different from the past editions because of the health crisis, we hope the edition 2021 will be as festive as before. Of course, it will depend on the evolution of the health situation. The program is yet in the pipes. The call for applications ended this past May 21, 2021 and it is now time to choose. Who will be the lucky winners led to perform in the night from October 2 to 3, 2021?
To guide this program, Paris mayor named at the head of the event’s artistic direction Sandrina Martins (head of Carreau du Temple) and Mourad Merzouki (head of the Centre Chorégraphique National de Créteil et du Val-de-Marne).
The Nuit Blanche (French for White Night) has been created in Paris over 20 years ago. As a matter of fact, since 2002, every first Saturday of October, Parisians and tourists enjoy a nighttime opening of many museums or monuments, an exclusive, festive and uncommon occasion to discover or re-discover the French heritage. From 7 p.m. to early morning, contemporary creation in all shapes and sizes takes over the public space.
Although choosing Sandrina Martins and Mourad Merzouki shows the will to shine a light on the tight relationships between Paris and the Greater Paris, this is also a dialog between art and sports, as well as the multidisciplinary approaches that will be given pride of place.
Martins and Merzouki both looked for and encouraged dialog between different disciplines. Running Carreau du Temple since 2015, Martins already mixes art and sports, with professionals and amateurs. The Festival Jogging will actually take place there in July 2021.
As for Merzouki – hip-hop movement big name since the early 1990’s – he goes from dancing and adds circus, martial arts, and even plastic arts, video and even live music.
In other words, we can rely on them to come up with a never-before-seen program for this White Night 2021!
