Centre Pompidou, the museum to visit in 2018 and 2019? A must-see for sure after glancing at the exhibition calendar: Union des Artistes Modernes, Chagall and the Russian Avant-Garde, Cesar retrospective, David Goldblatt exhibition… As many highlights for the upcoming year and that ends in full glory with an exhibition around Cubism, one of the most essential movements of modern art in the 20th century held from October 17, 2018 to February 25, 2019.
The idea? Showing the “exchanges between the artists and their match in the contemporary intellectual and social world” through famous cubist works such as Pablo Picasso, Francis Picabia, Robert Delaunay, Marcel Duchamp, Georges Braque, Henri Laurent, André Derain and even Fernand Léger. All in all, 300 works are offered to visitors according to a chronologic tour aiming at enlightening “the general public about key concepts, tools and processes that guaranteed the unity of the movement”.
“Decisive works” and “significant series” gathered together for the first time within one exhibition offering to dive into the “societal and historic dimensions” of the cubist world as well as to explore “the sensibility of the movement to modernity, at the moment and in the future” and to linger over “its relationship with the scientific discoveries and symmetrical technics”. Then, the exhibition leaves for the Kunstmuseum in Basel, partner of the exhibition, from March to August 2019.
