Without really leaving his atelier, Yves Saint Laurent reworked traditional Indian, Chinese and Japanese garments to bring his haute couture creations and fragrances to life.

From his earliest collections, he reinterpreted the sumptuous cloaks of the rulers of India. Then he explored imperial China for his Autumn-Winter 1977 collection, and the kimono in 1994!

These reveries would take Yves Saint Laurent to Spain, Morocco, Russia and China:"Voyages extraordinaires" dreamed up from readings and objets d'art that are not so far from reality.

Immersion in the exhibition on video:

He explained to the Elle magazine team: "This China, which I had so often interpreted in my creations, I found exactly as I had imagined it. All I need is a picture book for my mind to melt into a place, or a landscape. [...] I don't feel the need to go there. I've dreamed of it so many times..."

A total of 50 haute-couture models inspired by India, China and Japan will be on display in the halls of the Yves Saint Laurent museum for this beautiful exhibition, l'Asie rêvée d'Yves Saint Laurent.

To accompany his creations, Asian objets d'art on loan from the Musée Guimet and private collectors. A must-see!

Please note that it's been over 4 years since our last visit, so the place and experience may have changed.
