Without really leaving his studio, Yves Saint Laurent worked on traditional Indian, Chinese and Japanese clothes to give live to his haute couture designs and fragrances.
From his first collections, he revisits sovereigns’ sumptuous coats from India. Then, he explores the Imperial China for his fall-winter 1977 collection and kimono in 1994!
His dreams will take Yves Saint Laurent to Spain, Morocco, Russia, China: “extraordinary travels” dreamt from his readings and art objects that are not too far from the reality.
He will explain to the Elle magazine team: “This China, I’ve so often interpreted in my creations, I found it exactly as I’ve imagined. I only need a picture book to have my mind blending in a place or a landscape. […] I feel no need to go there. I’ve been dreaming of it so much…”
To go along his designs, Asian art objects lent by the Musée Guimet and by private collectors. To be visited!
