Contemporary history enthusiasts will soon be able to go to the new Musée de la Libération de Paris – Musée du Général Leclerc – Musée Jean Moulin, starting June 16, 2020. Inaugurated in August 2019, it gathers works and other historic documents coming from the Musée du Général Leclerc, originally set above the Gare Montparnasse, as well as from Antoinette Sasse and the Fondation du Maréchal Leclerc de Hautecloque.

Here’s to history enthusiasts! After temporarily closing because of the coronavirus epidemic, the Musée de la Libération is expected to reopen on June 16, 2020 in Paris. While waiting to know the health instructions this cultural place must implement, here is more about the treasures it contains:

Dedicated to World War II, the Musée de la Libération de Paris – musée du general Leclerc – musée Jean Moulin. A museum said to be inaugurated a few days prior, on August 25, 2019 at the Place Denfert Rochereau for the 75th anniversary of the Liberation of Paris. A museum originally set above the Gare Montparnasse and that moves to the heart of the capital, Place Denfert Rochereau, “to the pavilions created by Claude-Nicolas Ledoux”. A place that hasn’t been picked up by chance since it’s by crossing the Place Denfert Rochereau that the Général Leclerc frees Paris from the Nazi occupation. An entirely restored building offering to history lovers “a unique visit experience thanks to innovative mediation tools”.

About the visit of the permanent collections, this one happens in a chronological order, displaying each leg of the war “with a clear and didactic commitment”. The stake? “Passing on this essential page of History to as many people as possible”. All in all, over 7000 original documents, items and other photographs, including archive videos and testimonies are displayed to the visitors.

And the icing on the cake: you can visit a former underground shelter of the Resistance. A one-of-its-kind anti-aircraft shelter for a museum changing in order to provide an immersive vision of history. The period between the two wars, the Resistance, the African campaign, the Landings to the Liberation of Paris… We follow Jean Moulin’s path and Général Leclerc’s. Two sacred monsters of the history of France showing us the way for a total immersion.
