From February 27 to July 5, 2020, the musée Marmottan Monet unveils a new exhibition called “Cézanne and the Italian Masters”. The occasion to discover for the first time the painter’s work put in contact with masterpieces by the greatest Italian masters from the 16th to the 19th century.
On the occasion, a wonderful selection of paintings by Cézanne – including the iconic Montagne Sainte Victoire and the unforgettable pastorals and still lives – will face a rare selection of ancient paintings by Tintoretto, Greco, Ribera, Giordano, Poussin and for the modern ones Carrà, Sironi, Soffici, Pirandello without forgetting Boccioni and Morandi.
All in all, about sixty works coming from the greatest public and private collections in the world will be displayed!
The first part of the exhibition will show the impact of the Latin culture on Cézanne’s work and the way the latter fed from the example of his illustrious predecessors to base a “new” painting.
As for the second part of the display, it will endeavor to show the Cézanne’s influence on the great masters from the Italian Novecento, from Carrà to Morandi, without forgetting Boccioni.
A very awaited exhibition!
