The estate of Marly used to be one of the Sun King's summer residence set 7km from Versailles where only a few privileged people were welcome. Although the palace is now destroyed, the magnificent estate can be visited, and a museum offers you to relive the atmosphere of Marly across the years and kings that came here.

We knew the Trianon in Versailles, the Château de Marly is a place of retreat Louis XIV comes to, safe from the hustle and bustle of the Court of Versailles. Diametrically different from the official life in Versailles, Marly is a place where Louis XIV shows his personal tastes. For the regularly, famous and very coveted “Marlys”, the king surrounds himself with a few outstanding guests for a few days, and offers them many entertainments: hunting parties, concerts, games, balls, walks, and so on.

Today, the château royal de Marly is no more, but a musée du Domaine royal de Marly has been created to present the destroyed palace.

Start your tour by getting to know more about the unique architecture of Marly and its gardens as seen from the vestiges open to visitors in the park. In another room are revealed the secrets of the Machine de Marly, the “eighth wonder in the world”, a huge mechanism that required to fit the Seine to supply water sets in the king’s gardens thanks to an unparalleled know-how.

A virtual reality experience, called “L’Eclipse royale” will also allow visitors to attend the solar eclipse of May 3, 1715, with the Sun King, astronomer Cassini and the Duke of Orleans. Furthermore, guided tours, conferences, creative workshops, and entertainments for families are also on the menu all year around.
