Eugène Atget is given pride of place for an exhibition held at the Fondation Henri Cartier Bresson. Called “Voir Paris”, this display takes us to the work of the photographer who immortalized Paris from 1890 to 1927 through thousands of shots. To be discovered from May 19 to August 15, 2021.

Come and (re)discover Paris as shot by Eugène Atget at the Fondation Henri Cartier Bresson as soon as the museums reopens. If you have not heard about him, Atget was a photographer who has entrusted himself with shooting the old Paris between 1897, after hearing entire neighborhoods in the city will be renovated.

He has shot thousands of pictures that he will sell to different public institutions such as the Musée Carnavalet and the Historic Library of Paris, the Municipal Commission of the old Paris… And this is thanks to the collection from the Musée Carnavalet that this compelling exhibition can take place.

From May 19 to August 15, 2021, we will have the honor of admiring this unparalelled photographer's work at the Fondation Henri Cartier Bresson. In the 9,000 pictures taken by the artist - and archived at the Musée Carnavalet - the Eugène Atget - Voir Paris exhibition only displays a selection of 150 original prints that will definitely pique your curiosity.

We discover the career of this self-taught artist who managed to get himself a name in the photography universe. He started a drama career before turning to photography at 31, for lack of means. We are in 1888 and his pictures will take him to prosperity thanks to his innovative vision, the Fondation Henri Cartier Bresson says.

At the same time as this exhibition, the Cité de l’Architecture presents a selection of works from the Archives de la Planète, the mission Albert Khan started as he wanted to put up together a cartography of the world in colored pictures at the same time. These photographers took thousands of pictures of Paris.
