Eugène Atget is the guest of honor at the Henri Cartier Bresson Foundation, for the duration of an exhibition. Entitled Voir Paris (Seeing Paris), this presentation takes us on a journey through the work of the photographer who immortalized Paris from 1890 to 1927 through thousands of images. On view from May 19 to August 15, 2021.

Come and (re)discover Paris through the lens ofEugène Atget at the Fondation Henri Cartier Bresson, as soon as it reopens. If you don't know him, Atget was a photographer who set out to photograph old Paris in 1897, following the announcement of the rehabilitation of entire districts of the city.

He produced thousands of photographs, which he sold to various public institutions such as the Musée Carnavalet, the Bibliothèque historique de la ville de Paris and the Commission municipale du vieux Paris... It is thanks to the Musée Carnavalet collection that this exceptional exhibition is taking shape.

From May 19 to August 15, 2021, we have the privilege of admiring the incredible work of this unrivalled photographer at the Fondation Henri Cartier Bresson. Of the 9,000 photographs taken by the artist and archived at the Musée Carnavalet, the Eugène Atget - Voir Paris exhibition features only a selection of 150 original prints, which are sure to pique your curiosity.

Here you can discover the career of this self-taught artist, who went on to make a name for himself in the world of photography. And to think that he first embarked on a career in theater, before turning to photography at the age of 31, due to a lack of funds. The year was 1888, and his innovative vision, according to the Henri Cartier Bresson Foundation, led him to prosperity.

At the same time as this exhibition, the Cité de l'Architecture presents a selection of the work of Archives de la Planète, Albert Khan's company, which also undertook to map the world in colored photographs at the same time. His photographers produced thousands of images of Paris.
