Napoleon, the exhibition at the Grande Halle de la Villette unveiled

He is one of the greatest figures in the history of France: Napoleon is at the heart of the event exhibition initiated by the Grand Palais and installed at the Grande Halle de La Villette from May 28 to December 19, 2021. As admired as he was controversial, his military defeats and victories, his politics and his cultural legacy left a lasting mark on the country, and even on Europe.

This exhibition promises to be the star of this cultural season: it has been created in partnership with the Grand Palais and Re Re / Adonis. A number of prestigious museums have also contributed to this major event: the Musée de l'Armée, the Musée national du château de Fontainebleau, the Musée du Louvre, the Musée national des châteaux de Malmaison et Bois-Préau, the Mobilier national, the Fondation Napoléon, and with the exceptional contribution of the Musée national des châteaux de Versailles et de Trianon.

But how does this differ from other exhibitions devoted to theemperor, which are taking place in the region at the same time? La Villette has created an itinerary that retraces Napoleon's life, blending his political and military career with his private life. Campaigns and travels, life at court, social changes, religion, political downfall... Everything is sifted through to give us a broad and detailed picture of this very special era.

This exhibition is rich in treasures, rich in reflections. The Napoleonic era is full of controversy, ambivalence and opposing opinions. Slavery and lavish luxury, authoritarian rule and the introduction of new rights: Napoleon's politics are as fascinating as they are contrasting.

And don't forget to prepare your eyes for the grand return of La Villette after months of closure. This is demonstrated by themonumental animation and commentary of the painting of the Coronation of Emperor Napoleon I and the Coronation of Empress Josephine.

Paintings, educational films, busts and statues, war treasures, furniture, period objects, weapons, clothing and accessories, military equipment, jewelry...

Some of the exhibits are sure to amaze visitors, such as the sedan from the wedding procession of Napoleon and Marie-Louise, on loan from the Château de Versailles.
