This is a family history that you are told in the rooms of the Petit Palais. The museum throws a beautiful exhibition focusing on painter Augustin Rouart, a realistic painter from the early 20th century. The Petit Palais wished to give the artist pride of place on the occasion of a generous donation made by Augustin Rouart’s descendant, Jean-Marie Rouart, from the Académie Française.
The Academician gave twelve works of art to the museum so they can display them in the museum. This donation includes paintings by Henri Rouart, Henry Lerolle, Maurice Denis and Augustin Rouart.
To complete this beautiful collection and offer visitors an even richer exhibition, the Petit Palais presents alongside these works of art pastels, paintings, and sculptures by Berthe Morisot, Edgar Degas, and even Auguste Renoir. Discover as well about fifteen loans and documents from archives from the Rouart family such as letters, cards, and private photographs.
This exhibition runs from June 1st to October 10th 2021 and takes us to a soft world filled with travels and impromptu scenes. One becomes the curious viewer of this daily life painters managed to depict with such fineness.
The first room of the exhibition introduces us to the “Constellation Rouart” with works by Henri Rouart and Henry Lerolle. Landscapes and portraits give us a nice foretaste before we discover the next big room, the very core of the display.
There, you can admire masterpieces by Augustin Rouart and his friends and colleagues: Berthe Morisot, Paule Gobillard, Edgar Degas are displayed side by side.
Minimalistic scenes with bright colors, vacation memories or stagings of what seems to be straight out of ancient myths, this exhibition looks like an invitation to travel. One walks around these works providing a relaxing moment. A quiet and poetic moment to enjoy without moderation.
