It is time to shine a light on it: the Musée Guimet holds an exhibition to make you discover Tajikistan. Called “Tadjikistan, au pays des fleuves d’or” [Tajikistan, in the country of golden rivers], this exhibition is to be enjoyed from October 13, 2021 to January 10, 2022, without moderation.
Set in the heart of travels and exchanges in the Middle East, Tajikistan is a culture crossroad. Its history is strongly influenced by central Asia since the high antiquity and the movements of people on this continent. Its natural richness has attracted many peoples, looking for gems such as ruby and lapis-lazuli.
Thanks to this exhibition, walk along the story of Tajikistan, a country created by the many ethnics that inhabited it. From prehistory to the arrival of Islam and Buddhism, from archeological sites to intangible cultural heritage, go on an incredible cultural journey of an enchanting splendor.
The Musée Guimet has been able to enjoy many exceptional loans, pieces coming from different museums, such as the National Museum of Antiquities of Tajikistan, the Tajikistan National Museum, the British Museum – exceptionally sending works from the Oxus Treasure – and the Bibliothèque Nationale de France take part in this exhibition.
Art and history are combined to be one, and tell the captivating story of Tajikistan. Trade and cultural routes are crossed over centuries to create a unique civilization.
