In 2019, the White Night will take place on Saturday October 5. This 18th edition of the art night is trusted to Didier Fusillier who invited about a hundred artists. Great musical march, night race in the museums, bicycle lane on the beltway, what a thrilling program!
Get ready for a crazy White Night 2019 thanks to the beautiful art ideas provided by Didier Fusillier, the creative director selected by Paris city hall. The idea of the White Night is still the same: highlighting art in galleries and museums and bringing it into the streets, to people.
This year, the White Night follows the transformation of Paris, designed and wanted as a message to convey. The big news being the opening of the beltway to make a metropolitan White Night by physically breaking this boundary between Paris and its surroundings. From the Porte de la Villette to the Porte de Pantin, the beltway will be transformed in a lit velodrome, starting from 7 p.m., to offer you a chance to ride this pedestrian highway!
Why Didier Fusillier? It's the president of the Grande Halle de la Villette where he's entrusted with the program of the exhibitions, shows and concerts...
For the White Night 2019 in Paris:
- A great procession
Meet from 2 p.m. between the Grand Palais and the Petit Palais, on the Avenue Churchill, for an open air exhibition in the street. You can discover works of art before it starts (perfect for children). Then, at 7 p.m., head to the Place de la Bastille with a great 4-hour procession with fifteen marching bands, dancers, performers and artists. We can already count on Pascale Marthine Tayou, Shana Moulton and Daniel Buren!
At 11 p.m., the procession will split to take over 4 sites, south, north, east and west.
- La Grande Traversée, march by registration
For the first time, the Mairie de Paris offers two night maches open to all from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. Go at your pace, the idea is to walk a 9-km loop in Paris around 10 Parisian museums and monuments! 2 roads have been thought up. On one hand, the Louvre, the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, the Hotel de Ville, the Centre Pompidou, the Musée Picasso, the Ecole des Beaux Arts and on the other hand, the Grand Palais, the Petit Palais, the Musée Guimet, the Théâtre Chaillot, the Musée de l'Homme and the UNESCO...
- Traveling artists
For this White Night, about a dozen artists will walk the streets of Paris performing live from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.
- A bicycle lane on the beltway
Come and enjoy a bike ride on a part of the beltway, from 7 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. in a crazy atmosphere thanks to accessories to make your bike wheels sparkle! Pedestrians are welcome and can discover the works made by the invited artists. Around this major road, the Philharmonie de Paris and the Gymnase Ladoumègue will propose concerts and sporting events.
Careful though, these experiences are limited in numbers to avoid situations where people move but can't enjoy a think. Registrations open on July 1, 2019!
For the record, the White Night 2018 in Paris looked like this:
