Every summer, the 14th of July sets the whole of France ablaze - with Paris in the lead. In Paris, the festivities kick off in the morning with the famous military parade on the Champs-Élysées, followed by a grand classical concert at the foot of the Eiffel Tower and the long-awaited fireworks display at dusk from the Trocadéro. Popular balls, parties in fire stations transformed into dancefloors, open-air shows and musical entertainment are in full swing in every arrondissement. The day before, on July 13, the whole of theÎle-de-France region comes alive with fireworks displays, brass band dances and neighbourhood parties, in a decidedly festive, family-friendly atmosphere in major towns such as Versailles, Saint-Denis, Rueil-Malmaison and Meaux... The atmosphere is festive, joyous, popular and 100% tricolour.
How about heading east this year? Head for Mormant, a charming commune in the Seine-et-Marne region (77) between Melun and Provins. This village on a human scale (just over 4,000 inhabitants) is also celebrating the Fête Nationale, with an evening open to all on the Parvis des Écoles.
