Covid: “self-isolation” recommended by the Scientific Committee for the Holidays

Prior to the Holidays, the Scientific Committee is worried about a likely resurgence of the epidemic in France. The authorities recommend just like the government to “limit family and friend reunions as much as possible” and to show “citizenship”.

Amid the second wave of Covid-19, faced with many dangers related to the Holidays, the Scientific Committee takes a stand. Without any surprise, the recommendations of the authorities match the ones previously announced by the government: “self-isolating” for one week is recommended before meeting one’s family for Christmas. Even though this is no “immunity totem” – as said by Health Minister Olivier Véran – tests are still recommended before Christmas Eve, the Scientific Committee thinks. At least for people who need it.

In concrete words, the Scientific Committee recalls in the “Scientific enlightening note” released on Monday December 14, 2020 that it is extremely crucial to “limit family and friendly reunions as much as possible especially during the Holidays, speaking about the reasons with your closed ones”. The ultimate solution for the organization? A preventive self-isolation period: one week before December 24 to 31 (depending on what you will do), the Scientific Committee recommends to work from home or take a week off to stay home and limit trips outside.

This health imperative is all the more important because families will want to meet elderly people or people vulnerable to Covid-19. For the Holidays, it is about “limiting family reunions” the Scientific Committee urges. As for the test prevention, “it’s not about limiting access to tests, but show citizenship” the authorities say. Starting with avoiding – as much as possible – to get tested without a valid reason (contact case or multiple contacts with people showing symptoms). If you took no risk the week before the Holidays and if you feel healthy and well, you do not need to overcrowd laboratories!
