For European Heritage Days, the Gobelins Manufactory is offering an exclusive behind-the-scenes visit that puts exceptional craftsmanship in the spotlight on September 19 and 20, 2026. A great opportunity not to be missed! Here is the weekend’s schedule.

Renowned worldwide for its exceptional tapestries, the Gobelins Manufactory was founded in the 15th century under Colbert and has since continually breathed life into French artisanal heritage. For the 43rd edition of the Heritage Days, explore this landmark through a one-off visit to the heart of "exceptional know-how, the vitality of artistic creation and contemporary design" on Saturday, September 19 and Sunday, September 20, 2026.

The Manufacture opens its doors and invites visitors to discover " the treasures of the institution in its reserves, where one of the richest collections of furniture in the world is stored ". Also on the program: the opening of the restoration and creation workshops " with the Gobelins, Beauvais and La Savonnerie factories, at the heart of creation for 400 years ". And for this exceptional edition, the Mobilier National is mobilizing to show visitors never-before-seen pieces from its collections.

Visitors will have the chance to explore, during the 2026 Heritage Days, the various spaces of the Gobelins Manufactory. Check out the program below!

  • Parcours Perret — Reserves and Restoration Workshops

Push open the doors to the Mobilier national’s reserves and restoration workshops and dive into the behind-the-scenes of an exceptional heritage.

The tour starts in the courtyard of the Perret building, where visitors are welcomed onto a specially laid red carpet drawn from the Mobilier national’s collections, normally reserved for official ceremonies at the Élysée. An overview of the mission of the national Manufactures will help readers understand the role of this unique institution, serving the state and safeguarding the national movable heritage.

The visit continues in the iconic Perret Reserve, where a selection of major restoration campaigns led by the Mobilier national will be showcased. Visitors will then have the opportunity to explore spaces usually closed to the public, at the heart of the workshops where conservators, restorers and art craftsmen work daily to pass on and preserve exemplary know-how.

On this occasion, several workshops will exceptionally open their doors: seatmaking joinery, carpet restoration, tapestry restoration, bronze and lustre workshop, upholstery tapestry and decorative tapestry. The tour will also grant access to the tapestry reserve, the machines in the Atelier de recherche et de création (ARC), and the central aisle in the basement.
