What’s on the lineup for Museums Night 2026 at the Paris Shoah Memorial

  • "Night" by Edgar Hilsenrath. A staged reading by Bastien Bouillon
    Saturday, May 23, 2026 — 8:00 p.m. ⤏ 11:59 p.m.

Translated from German by Jörg Stickan and Sacha Zilberfarb, Le Tripode, 2014.

On the occasion of the centenary of Edgar Hilsenrath’s birth.

"Nuit" serves as the gateway to Edgar Hilsenrath’s body of work (1926-2018), drawing on his own history and the Ukrainian ghetto where he spent four years, between 1941 and 1945. Written in a mechanical, pared‑down, hallucinatory, almost cinematic style, the novel follows Ranek as he struggles to survive day after day in the Prokov ghetto. The characters are pared down to shadows... as if they have lost both soul and body. Yet, within this perpetual fog, glimmers of life surface: hunger, cold, hurried lovemaking or a birth taking place in the middle of the ghetto, proving that humanity endures. Banned in Germany for twenty years, Nuit is today regarded as the masterpiece of the German Jewish writer.

Accompanied by Louise Bouillon Holt, musician and actress, Azeddine Benamara, musician, and Tristan Chevalier, musician.

So, shall we meet at the Shoah Memorial for the 22nd Night of Museums, friends?
