Olympic Games Paris 2024: The Olympic Torch Relay in Essonne - cities, dates and route

As in other departments of the Paris region, the Olympic flame will pass through Essonne. See you on Monday July 22 in the 11 communes of the 91 region where the torchbearers will be passing through. Here's the program you won't want to miss.

It's not every day that the Olympic flame passes through your home! This Monday, July 22, 2024, Essonne will be highlighted with the passage of the Olympic flame, four days before the opening of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games . This will be a historic opportunity for the 11 communes it passes through to showcase their heritage and their commitment to sport and inclusion.

The torchbearers include three women and three men, athletes and civil society players, who embody the values of perseverance, diversity and excellence:

  • Rolland Besson, former chairman of several Essonne sports committees.
  • Pascal Bovis, manager of FC Fleury 91 and entrepreneur in the transport sector.
  • Sandra Enguerrand, general secretary of the Comité départemental handisport de l'Essonne.
  • Maëlys Feve, rising star of adapted table tennis.
  • Claire Floret, teacher and president of the "Donnons des elles au vélo" women's cycling initiative.
  • Jérôme Foscolo, founder of the Diamant Futsal association and campaigner for handisport futsal.

The detailed route of the flame includes the following stages, selected for their cultural and sporting significance:

  • Étampes - Departure near the île de loisirs, a picturesque start for the flame.
  • Domaine départemental de Chamarande - An emblematic site showcasing Essonne's natural heritage.
  • Palaiseau - Passing in front of research and innovation institutions.
  • Massy - The flame will pass in front of the Opera House, symbolizing the city's cultural wealth.
  • Marcoussis - Including the Centre National de Rugby, a French sports mecca.
  • Draveil - Highlighting the town's green spaces and leisure facilities.
  • Vigneux-sur-Seine - Highlighting the local community and sporting commitment.
  • Montgeron - Historically notable as the starting point of the first Tour de France in 1903.
  • Dourdan - The flame will cross near the royal castle, adding a royal touch to the route.
  • Évry-Courcouronnes - Penultimate stage marking the city's modern, dynamic urbanism.
  • Bondoufle - Arrival at the Robert Bobin departmental stadium, where the flame will be celebrated before the official opening of the Games.

Each stage of this route has been chosen to reflect the diversity and richness of Essonne, with entertainment and special events planned to celebrate the spirit of the Games. The route will highlight Essonne as a key location for the preparation and celebration of the 2024 Olympic Games.
