Until Dawn returns to haunt your screens in a remastered version! The game, developed by Ballistic Moon, has been waiting for you to discover its narrative, worthy of the best slasher films, since October 4, 2024 on PC and PS5. The story is identical to that of the original version, but with a few new features in terms of gameplay and graphics (it's not a remaster for nothing...).
This classic narrative horror game, created by Supermassive Games, plunges us back into the harrowing atmosphere of the Blackwood Mountains, where a group of friends face unimaginable horrors. This revival offers fans and newcomers alike a chance to live or relive this adventure.
"When eight friends return to the isolated chalet where two members of their group disappeared the previous year, fear quickly freezes all hearts, and the mountain excursion turns into a nightmare with no way out. Immerse yourself in a macabre, grueling horror game with breathtaking graphics, entirely redesigned to take full advantage of the Unreal Engine 5. With sequences worthy of the seventh art, refined gameplay mechanics and more, set out to explore an isolated mountain, where appearances are more than deceptive. Face your fears and decide the fate of the eight survivors in this classic horror game, redesigned and sublimated for the PS5 console".
The remastered version features numerous improvements. Animations have been revisited to enhance the original performances of actors including Hayden Panettiere (Heroes...) and Brett Dalton (Marvel's Agents of SHIELD...), as well as Rami Malek (Mr. Robot, Bohemian Rhapsody...). Environments, characters and even sound effects have been reworked for a more immersive experience. A richer palette of tonal colors and an improved camera offer new perspectives and interactions in the game. Mark Korven's reworked soundtrack, in conjunction with licensed music, adds a final touch to the terrifying atmosphere.
Our review of Until Dawn Remaster:
After a 2015 release that had already delighted gamers, what more can this remaster offer? The first Until Dawn (well, the 2015 version, as you may have guessed...) is undoubtedly one of the benchmarks for survival-horror and story-based games, and this remastered version is no exception: Until Dawn Remastered remains a benchmark in its field, with the storyline unchanged.
Because it's the graphics that really matter: the game is very beautiful, and its graphics make for a more intense immersion in the story. It's visually accomplished, in any case much more so than the original version (the engines have something to do with it, of course, the passage of time and all that...). But that's where it ends: this remaster could have offered new scenes or improved handling, but there's none of that. One drawback: the movement of characters in the game space is a little too "robotic", or at least unnatural.
Another drawback is the price: 70 euros for a graphical overhaul of an admittedly cult game, but with nothing new in terms of content. It's a steep price to pay to replay this iconic video game, even if it is a must-have. Fans will have to wait for the price to drop before they can fully enjoy it. Nonetheless, Until Dawn remains a good survival-horror for the curious. All you have to do is make up your own mind.
