Indiana Jones and the Ancient Circle finally available! The famous archaeologist Indiana Jones is back in new video-game adventures, published by Bethesda and developed with MachineGames, the studio responsible for the award-winning Wolfstein saga. A video game available since December 9, 2024 on PC and Xbox Series, and since April 17, 2025 on PS5. Nintendo Switch 2 gamers will have to be patient, but they can rejoice: Indiana Jones and the Ancient Circle is scheduled for release in 2026.
As for the game's plot, it's an original story, in which we find Indiana Jones at the height of his career and adventures, well before the events of the fourth film. The game takes place precisely between Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade, says Bethesda.
" Unravel one of history's greatest mysteries in a first-person solo adventure set between the events of Raiders of the Lost Ark™ and The Last Crusade™. It' s 1937, dark forces roam the globe in search of the secret of an ancient power linked to the Great Circle, and only one person is capable of stopping them: Indiana Jones™. "
Muscularbattles against the Nazis, mysterious temples full of traps andenigmas, inescapable music: there's no doubt about it, Indy is back, in an exceptional quest that takes us to the four corners of the globe, from Rome to China via Egypt. The game's various trailers promised us, at the time, to discover highly polished images, quality graphics and a universe that immerses us in the hero's original trilogy... And a first-person gameplay system. And one thing's for sure: we weren't disappointed! This choice may have come as a surprise to some, but it doesn't seem so incongruous in a title that combines combat, infiltration and shoot-outs.
Our opinion on Indiana Jones and the Ancient Circle:
Playing time: 30h, on PS5
While the game was a big hit on Xbox Series (we didn't have one when it came out, but we do now), we wanted to try the adventure on PS5... And Indiana Jones and the Ancient Circle didn't disappoint. Not for a second... Graphically speaking, Bethesda 's game is pretty and captures the atmosphere of the films very well, although not everything is perfect (especially the NPCs, whose facial expressions are a little frozen...). The cinematics are particularly polished, offering unparalleled immersion in the world of the archaeologist. In short, it's pretty.
As for the story, it's flawless: the game faithfully reproduces the codes of Spielberg 's films, from the music to the setting, from the dialogue to the characters. Quite simply, this is an Indiana Jones movie, literally. It's impeccable, extremely Manichean, full of Jonesian humor... and it's everything we love! This respect for the license even extends to the gameplay, much to the delight of players.
In terms of gameplay, as we've already mentioned, you'll find everything that makes theIndiana Jones universe so special: gun battles and hand-to-hand combat (with the sound of punches as a bonus), disguises to get around in certain areas (clerical cassock in the Vatican, Nazi uniform in Egypt, etc.), accessible but challenging puzzles and, above all, the ability to use your whip to disarm enemies, knock them down or swing to reach inaccessible areas. It's just plain fun! Add to this a tutorial replaying the very first scene from the very first film (you know, with the golden idol and the ball of stone chasing you) and you've got a videogame must-have that you'd be foolish to avoid.
There's also the question of the first-person view. Very dubious at first, it takes a while to get used to it, but you quickly understand the approach: put yourself 100% in the shoes ofIndiana Jones, but also take full advantage of the highly detailed environments. In the end, it's hard to see how the game could have been designed any other way, so natural does it feel. An excellent point! The only downside is the semi-open world, which is ultimately rather redundant in its approach to each of Indy's journeys from one place to another... But that's quickly forgotten.
A game made by lovers of the franchise too, and you can feel it! In short, Indiana Jones and the Ancient Circle is a must-have videogame for PC and consoles, especially if you're a fan of the archaeologist. And a game so respectful of the character's universe is rare enough to merit a mention. Go for it!
