Project "tHinG" Musical encounter between geomungo, piano and electronic music - Saturday, May 18, 2024 at 7pm

When the piano meets the geomungo (Korean six-string zither) and electronic music, possibilities break down boundaries, impossibilities dissipate and new creations emerge. The acronym "tHinG" stands for "Harmony in Gaon," with Gaon meaning middle or half in ancient Korean.

Cumulating 40 years of musical expertise between them, pianist Park Jonghwa and geomungo player Heo Yoonjeong form, with Gabriel Prokofiev - an eminent British composer and electronic music virtuoso (who is also the esteemed grandson of maestro Sergei Prokofiev) - a trio that brings together several composers, performers and artists. Thanks to their seamless communication, together they create a revolutionary production that shatters boundaries and stimulates innovation.

Rooted in Korea but transcending borders and genres, "Project tHinG" enables a form of coalition between musicians and artists. Together, they create performances that enable a shared global experience. At the gaon (center) of music, "Project tHinG" thus unites artists and ideas, developing new sounds for a project guided by accomplished virtuosos.

Grand gala "Jeux Lyriques", Sunday, May 19, 2024 at 5 p.m.

Produced by Hera Hye-sang Park, Kyungil Ko, Jeff Cohen and the Quintette à vent des solistes de l'Orchestre de Chambre de Paris

For Korea's cosmopolitan soprano Hera Hyesang Park, performing and recording are both a means of self-discovery, but also a sincere, sensitive and honest way of connecting with others. Endowed with immaculate technique and a visibly infinite variety of timbres, her virtuoso lyric voice reflects the unabashed nature of her performances - always daring, never dull.

Hera Hyesang Park's rising star status is underpinned by a series of critically acclaimed performances, moving from the Metropolitan Opera to the Glyndebourne Festival. In 2019, she received praise for her debut as La Bohème (Musetta) in Barrie Kosky's new production of La Bohème at Komische Oper Berlin. Later in the year, her role as Rosania in Il Barbiere di Siviglia at the Glyndebourne Festival was described by The Times as "phenomenal", while Classical Source praised her for discovering "an element of vulnerability and pathos that make the character flesh and blood".

For this concert, taking place in the superb setting of the prestigious Salle Gaveau, Hera Hyesang Park will be accompanied by Kyungil Ko (bass), both accompanied by Jeff Cohen's piano in the first half. In the second part, the two lyrical artists will perform to the music of the Wind Quintet of the soloists of the Orchestre de Chambre de Paris. A wonderful Franco-Korean musical encounter!
