Our take on Doctor Strange - Mystical Mysteries at Avengers Campus:

We were eagerly awaiting this show, and it certainly doesn’t disappoint. Right off the bat, the action kicks in with F.R.I.D.A.Y. announcing that a supernatural force from beyond is seeping onto the campus, complemented by the witches’ stroll heard in the series Agatha All Along. No fuss, just the mood set immediately.

Then comes Doctor Strange. On the spectacle side, the tech is solid—limited by the setup, yes, but the opening of a mystic portal and the sorcerer’s appearance land with coherence. The mapping effects are well thought out, revealing the spells cast by Doctor Strange and the Scarlet Witch. We especially enjoy how the Eye of Agamotto is used to conjure a shield around a crate, delivering a convincing effect, enhanced by the performers’ hand lights whose colors match the magic being shown.

As for , they’re present too, with a few bursts fired to underline the power of the spells—echoing the might of the Sorcerer Supreme. They’re used sparsely (perhaps not perfectly aligned with every spell), but they’re a pleasure to watch and consistently deliver a sense of surprise. The bilingual France-English approach to ensure all guests understand what’s unfolding works well, and helps everyone follow the action.

Only quibble: we’d have liked the show to run a bit longer. The winter chill and the need for spectators to stay in place limit how long kids—and everyone—can stay attentive. Still, it’s a lively, family-friendly, high-spirited spectacle that should delight fans of the master of mystic arts, the Sorcerer Supreme, and Agatha Harkness. We certainly didn’t leave disappointed!

As a reminder, the show was announced at the press conference dedicated to new developments for 2024, held on April 12, 2024 (which we were able to attend). All we learned was that Doctor Strange and Scarlet Witch would be at the heart of a show at Avengers Campus and that it would begin in the fall. This show is sure to delight fans of the MCU's sorcerers (and we are definitely among them). Ready to dive into the mystical arts? We can't wait!
