This is another historic monument reopening! Château de Rambouillet is reopening after being closed for many months because of Coronavirus. Starting from May 19, 2021, you can once again discover this magnificent castle from the 15th century.
The castle keeps its layouts inaugurated in June 2020 to comply with the instated health measures. Head of educative and cultural service Anne-Claire Nayrolles told Actu.fr: “In a historic monument, it’s not easy to come up with health guidelines. We’ve had to entirely change the tour to avoid crossing and ban any return. It required a lot of thoughts”.
She goes on: “people cannot come in and go out by the same door, as they used to. We’ve decided to set the entrance to the castle in the garden. People will start the tour with the Salle des Marbres, and continue this one-way tour. They will exit through the castle’s court, where stands the store”. In the heart of the tour, a reorganization of spaces to avoid contact with anyone else. Therefore, touch-screen pads have been removed to avoid manipulation increasing contamination risks.
As for health measures, everything has been thought up to keep visitors safe and healthy: compulsory facemask-wearing, hand-sanitizer available, compulsory online booking… It will enable you to visit the place in the best conditions. Note yet some rooms are still closed: the Chaumière aux Coquillages is still closed.
To help you get over, head to the Laiterie housing the “Vivre à l'antique, de Marie-Antoinette à Napoléon 1er” exhibition. Discover about fifty works of art showing 18th century French’s passion for antique art, furniture and decoration.
You can also enjoy conferences and a family-friendly show performed by “Fool’s Cap Théâtre”.
Just go and enjoy Rambouillet, friends!
