Miten Emmy-palkinnot toimivat

Emmy Awards (tai Emmy-palkinnot ) on vuosittainen tunnustus televisio-ohjelmien erinomaisuudesta Yhdysvalloissa. Niitä pidetään usein elokuva-Oscarien televisio-ekvivalenttina, ja ne ovat yksi amerikkalaisen viihteen arvostetuimmista palkinnoista. Valintaprosessi on kaksivaiheinen: ensinAcademy of Television Arts & Sciences -akatemian jäsenet nimeävät ehdokkaat, minkä jälkeen lopullinen äänestys ratkaisee kunkin kategorian voittajat. Ylimmissä luokissa (paras sarja) kaikki akatemian jäsenet voivat äänestää, kun taas teknisistä tai erityispalkinnoista (ohjaus, käsikirjoitus, näyttelijät jne.) päättävät kunkin alan ammattilaiset.

Primetime Emmy Awards -palkintoseremonia järjestetään vuosittain syyskuussa, hieman ennen syksyn televisiokauden alkua. Illan televisioivat vuorotellen Yhdysvaltojen suuret kansalliset verkot (CBS, ABC, NBC ja FOX), jotta yleisömäärät olisivat mahdollisimman suuret. Palkintojen suuren määrän (yhteensä yli 80 luokkaa) vuoksi suurin osa teknisistä ja taiteellisista palkinnoista jaetaan Creative Arts Emmy Awards-gaalassa, joka järjestetään yksi tai kaksi kertaa ennen pääiltapalkintojen jakoa. Kuuluisa patsas, joka luovutetaan voittajille, esittää siivekästä naista, joka pitää kädessään atomia, joka symboloi taiteen ja televisiotieteen yhdistymistä. Nimi "Emmy" on johdettu nimestä "Immy", joka on ensimmäisille videokamerahiteille annettu lempinimi, ja se on naisellinen, jotta se sopisi siivekkääseen hahmoon.

Palkinnon historia

Ensimmäiset Emmy-palkinnot järjestettiin 25. tammikuuta 1949 Los Angelesissa. Alun perin kyseessä oli vain paikallinen seremonia Los Angelesin alueen televisio-ohjelmien edistämiseksi. Lastenohjelmaa juontanut vatsastapuhuja Shirley Dinsdale oli Emmyn historian ensimmäinen voittaja, joka sai palkinnon erinomaisimmasta televisiohenkilöstä vuonna 1949. 1950-luvulla Emmyt laajenivat kansalliseksi tapahtumaksi, jossa palkittiin koko Yhdysvalloissa lähetettyjä ohjelmia. Hollywoodissa sijaitsevan Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (ATAS) -akatemian lisäksi New Yorkissa sijaitseva National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS ) järjesti vuonna 1955 alueelliset Emmyt ja myöhemmin päiväohjelmille tarkoitetut Daytime Emmyt.

Seuraavina vuosikymmeninä Emmy-palkinnoista luotiin myös muita versioita, joilla palkittiin tiettyjä lajityyppejä: esimerkiksi Daytime Emmy Awards (luotu 1970-luvulla) päiväohjelmille, Sports Emmy Awards urheilulähetyksille, News & Documentary Emmys uutis- ja dokumenttiohjelmille ja International Emmys kansainvälisille televisiotuotannoille. Primetime Emmy Awards -seremonia on kuitenkin edelleen laajimmin tunnettu ja arvostetuin. Vuodesta 1974 lähtien sekaannusten välttämiseksi näihin tärkeimpiin Emmyihin on liitetty termi Primetime, kun Daytime Emmyt perustettiin. Ajan myötä Emmy-palkinnot ovat seuranneet audiovisuaalisen maiseman kehitystä, ja vuodesta 1988 lähtien niihin on kuulunut kaapelikanavia ja 2010-luvulta lähtien suoratoistoalustoja johtavien kilpailijoiden joukossa. Nykyään Emmyn voittaminen on televisiotekijöille, näyttelijöille ja käsityöläisille edelleen pienen kuvaruudun alan ylin tunnustus.
