For a wonderful journey to Quebec, meet at Québecium. Nestled in Paris 17th arrondissement since December 2019, this 250sqm concept store is the occasion to enjoy nice dishes inspired by the Quebec terroir, as well as to sip a craft beer brewed by the boss, without forgetting to take a bit of Quebec back home thanks to the delicatessen corner. Yes, Québecium is all this at the same time and it has never been seen before in Paris!
Inside this new and very welcoming place devoted to this dear province in Canada, the most curious ones and lovers of the Quebec culture are happy to see first a delicatessen corner with a large selection of Quebec alcohols (beers, red, white or rosé wines, spirits and ice ciders), as well as – for foodies – savory and sweet produces coming from the Quebec terroir (wild lowbush berry jam, maple water, maple cookies, maple salt, fir tree mustard without forgetting teas and infusions…).
On the spot, you’ll fall in love with this bright place enjoying a nice 6-m high ceiling and the mezzanine where hides the famous and very coveted reconstructed wooden cabin. You can privatize it and feel like as if you were in a Quebec forest, between skates hanging on the wall, the checkered plaid on the cozy sofa without forgetting the views on the snow! The boss, Benjamin Berthiaume coming from Montreal and set in Paris since 2006, has really recreated a part of his home in the heart of the 17th arrondissement… A great interior that has been inspired by Quebec, including the toilets of the bistro-bar with pictures of Céline Dion and René Angelil, as well as the unforgettable Roch Voisine, Garou and Formula 1 former pilot Jacques Villeneuve. Speaking of sports, the place broadcast on its giant screen games of hockey or soccer when PSG plays. And we have to say the chef is a big supporter of the Parisian soccer team.
Once comfortably seated, let’s discover the food with homemade dishes based on grandmothers’ recipes, without forgetting to support the local Batignolles artisans. So, the bread comes from the Basso bakery, while the coffee comes from roaster Lanni. Of course, maple comes as a twist in many recipes available on the menu that changes very regularly and respects the season.
Moving on to starters, Québecium offered that night the classic nachos with corn soup and diced maple bacon.
As for mains, we enjoyed a hearty chicken burger with truffled gouda, a delicious splash of guacamole, salad and ketchup. Duroc pork ribs and their barbecue marinade with maple syrup and French fries were also a hit that night.
And how could one come to Québecium but not test the traditional poutine, the genuine one with cheese chunks, the famous gooey cheese! It’s definitely where it tastes the best! You can choose between the classic poutine with Saint-Guillaume (Quebec) cheese, fries and homemade sauce, or the western poutine and pulled chicken, or the one with duck confit. Two sizes are available: the simple for €9 or the double for €16 for when you are very hungry.
To finish on a sweet note, we fell for the golden bread; a delicious French toast served with apple sauce, confectioner’s sugar and maple-flavored whipped cream!
To pair these dishes, Québecium offers a nice selection of beers including two brewed by Benjamin himself: the Bière de Champlain, a lager with Indian wheat or the Bière René Lévesque, a Nordic IPA. On the menu too? A 9.5% coffee Stout from Dieu du Ciel (Montréal) and the Bière Batignolles, a pale ale from the neighborhood and coming from the partnering brewery, Hespebay. Good to know, Québecium provides a happy hour from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
With such a smiling and welcoming staff with their inimitable accent, Québecium truly delighted us! In other words, meet now at Québecium to experience this friendly and authentic restaurant with a very Quebec-like décor! Stop singing the apple and come here to discover Québecium in Paris. You’ll be charmed.
