A new team of superheroes is coming down to Earth. Marvel has dropped the first trailer for Eternals, the upcoming superhero movie directed by Chloé Zhao expected to be out on November 3, 2021 in France.

Will they be as popular as the Avengers? Marvel is launching a new team of immortal superheroes on the big screen thanks to a crazy cast. “Eternals” movie – which first trailer has dropped this Monday May 24, 2021 – is expected to open on November 3 in French movie theaters. Another trailer has dropped this Thursday August 19, 2021.

Here are the Eternals, then, a group of super-powerful people who came down to Earth thousands of years ago. They taught men how to cultivate the soil, control the water, develop their civilizations, before returning to the shadows and let the humans grow and evolve. But a threat as old as humankind has surged again, forcing the Eternals to return in the limelight and fight: they will have to fight the Deviants.

Super powers, romance, action… The trailer suggest a very beautiful show likely to delight Marvel – and other – fans!

Eternals is directed by Chloé Zhao and has a very beautiful cast: you will have the characters of Ikaris (played by Richard Madden), Kingo (Kumail Nanjiani), Makkari (Lauren Ridloff), Phastos (Brian Tyree Henry), Ajak (Salma Hayek), Sprite (Lia McHugh), Gilgamesh (Don Lee), and Thena (Angelina Jolie). Please also note that Kit Harrington is also starring as Black Knight, and Gemma Chan will be Sersi (she already was Minn-Erva in Captain Marvel).

Review:

Eternals is a movie with a rather spellbinding plot, rather far from what Marvel Studios usually deliver. A movie that stands out, only making a reference to the MCU once or twice (just to show the movie is linked to the others), and delivering an original story, so far from the rest that those who have not followed up the previous Marvel Studios movies will not be left behind.

But what makes the very flavor of the movie is the photography! After Nomadland and breathtaking pictures, Chloé Zhao does it again thanks to Director of Photography Ben Davis, offering a movie with striking pictures of wide shots. Magnificent and impresisve landscapes contrasting with men, always smaller in this wide universe. It is beautiful and this is what we were asking for! Honorable mention to Angelina Jolie as Thena, a surprising character with many layers but always deeper throughout the movie.

But we might regret a certain lack of ambition in the scenario. Sticking to the specifications, Zhao seems to hold herself back in the storytelling, as made clear by the performance of some actors (Richard Madden for instance) who holds back in the emotion and interactions with the other characters. Some of them definitely deserve to get a greater arch and are only useful at the end of the movie, bringing another layer, but to the detriment of the rest of the movie. But, Eternals is an entertaining movie, not groundbreaking, but likely to please Marvel fans.
