For Museums Night, the National Archives opens for free the Hôtel de Soubise on Saturday May 14, 2022, in the evening. Visit this little-known venue and discover its missions.

The National Archives takes part in Museums Night on Saturday May 14, 2022. On the occasion, the Archives welcome us at the Hôtel de Soubise, a hotel particulier at the heart of the Chantier du Temple built in 1371.

On March 6, 1808, the Hôtel de Soubise is bought by the State with an imperial decree and officially given to the Empire Archives: Napoleon I had the archives gathered together since until then, they were kept in several Parisian storehouses. For over eight centuries, this hotel particulier is part of the Parisian landscape and has lived through all conflicts and social changes that made the French capital city.

European Museums Night is the perfect occasion to explore this history-packed venue and discover the missions and trades enlivening the National Archives. Make the most of the 18th edition to visit this building, and enjoy plenty of cultural entertainments held for this exclusive night.

On the menu of Museums Night 2022, at Paris National Archives:

  • Guided tours of the Grands Dépôts
    Saturday May 14, 6 p.m.
Guided tours of the  “dépôts” (or storages) of Louis-Philippe and Napoleon III housing the Medieval archives and ones from the Ancien Régime.

  • "Autour du Juene Ravel: les années de formation" concert
    Saturday May 14, 8:30 p.m.
Between 1893 and 1900, young Maurice Ravel is trained at the conservatoire among his peers such as R. Hahn, C. Koechlin, F. Schmitt and C. Tournemire. Inspired by performance studies, students from the CMA9-Conservatoire Nadia & Lili Boulanger will provide the audience with the composers' first creations they studied over the year, directed by their teachers and the ELLIS quartet, as part of the course provided by the Archives Nationales in partnership with ProQuartet.

Often little-known, this monument in the city has a lot of surprises in store: how about making the most of Museums Night to discover it?
