The Musée de l’Armée opens on May 18, 2019 from nightfall to midnight for Museums Night. An exceptional night around France’s military History – with a capital H – since the Hôtel des Invalides and the Musée de l’Armée’s permanent collections will be open to the public for free starting from 6 p.m.
Visitors can then discover this place filled with history, created in 1905 with the merger of the Musée d’Artillerie and the Musée historique de l’Armée, both already set within the Hôtel des Invalides. Reenactment of the Grande Armée bivouac, historic events, concerts, investigation games, guided tours, explanations… history lovers – especially fond of Napoleon I – will find anything they’re looking for!
Skill game fans and reflection game enthusiasts won’t be left out since this year, the Musée de l’Armée provides the Défi du Casque Perdu, an adventure to discover on your own or with other peoples, with your family or friends. For European Museums Night, your mission takes you to the collection of ancient weapons and armors, to the Historial Charles de Gaulle. What game will you choose: laid-back or competition? Memory, precision, bravery and a dash of luck will be essential to make it through the night.
Moving on to bookings, you have until May 17 and you can sign up on the spot as long as spots are available on May 18, 2019 (from 6 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.) at the reception area set on the side of the esplanade. To complete your mission well, each team has to download on a smartphone (or several) the free apps called “Lampe Torche” (flashlight) and “scan QRcode”.
And for those who would have missed the event, the Picasso and War exhibition will be exceptionally open and still free of charge. The occasion to discover or rediscover this contemporary artist moved by so many fights and wars. An exhibition calling History lovers as well as novices or young schoolers or students.
