It’s a mandatory passage, a door to the world of ballet and a guilty pleasure we know we won’t deny ourselves: Swan Lake, the famous and enchanting “White Ballet” is performed on the stage of the Palais des Congrès on June 21, 22 and 23, 2019 with the Universal Ballet and a choreography by Oleg Vinogradov.
Based in Seoul, the Universal Ballet has been one of the most prestigious ballet company since its creation in 1984. It includes 70 dancers coming from a dozen countries worldwide, from Europe to the United States without forgetting Asia.
The story is about the White Swan, or princess Odette imprisoned in the skin of the animal following an enchantment. She falls in love with prince Siegfried of marrying age… Wizard Rothbart – who cast the spell – introduces his daughter Odile – the Black Swan – instead of Odette to the prince. The likeness is striking and fools the prince who commits to marrying her in front of the court. The fraud is yet unveiled when Odile bursts in during the wedding…
As a ballet renown for its choreography (its stunning solos and duets and especially its easily recognizable Danse des Petits Cygnes), it can be even more famous thanks to the score by Tchaikovsky, a real master piece.
Oleg Vinogradov chose to explore the twists and turns of timeless love with a ballet in two acts, based on the original version by Marius Petitpa and Lev Ivanov. Here, Swan Lake mixes the harmony and grace of the cultural Asian thought with the power and the beauty of Occidental ballet.
