World Music Day is about to be wonderful and long at the Saint Eustache church. And for good reason, on Tuesday 20 and Wednesday 21 June 2017, the famous Parisian monument will house the new and twelfth edition of the Festival 36h Saint Eustache.
Born 12 years ago upon Saint Eustache vicar’s original idea, the Festival des 36h is a project driven by Saint Eustache parish community.
The concept? For 36 hours, including a sleepless night, riffs, keys, beats and samples are played alongside lyrical choirs and organs under the majestic vault of the Cathédrale des Halles.
Each invited band revisits then a liturgic piece it has chosen (gospel, requiem, ave maria, psalms, negro spiritual…) highlighting sacred music from an unusual angle.
This year, the program will give pride of place to Halo Maud, Yeti Lane, Petit Prince, Palatine and even JP Nataf.
PROGRAM OF THE CONCERTS FOR THE SLEEPLESSNIGHT – TUESDAY JUNE 20, 2017
8 p.m.: Stranded Horse (Kora Folk / Talitres)
Stranded Horse music is traveling. Drawing his inspiration from travels and collaborations, this Norman musician combines Anglo-Saxon folk music with the grace of kora strings and alternates songs in French and in English.
9 p.m.: HALO MAUD (Dream Pop / La Souterraine)
After playing with Lescop, Moodoid, Melody’s Echo Chamber, Maud Nadal is now going solo as Halo MAUD in the compilation set by La Souterraine trend scouts. An ethereal voice, strapped with synth music, her first EP is a genuine dream pop gem.
10 p.m.: BUVETTE solo (Synth Pop / Pan European Recording)
After Flavien Berger, Nicolas Ker and Koudlam, the festival once again declares its love to Pan European Recordings by receiving Buvette. The French-Swiss musician and his synth-pop flirting with electro and dub music will present his latest album in a unique layout!
11:30 p.m.: RUBIN STEINER (Electro Psyche / Platinum Records Label)
This musician prodigy from Tours, Rubin Steiner, and his latest album offer a cosmic dance: “Carnival on Mercury” or “Uranus Samba”. With a synth music gleaingn sounds from disco, techno or synth-pop, he will undoubtedly make you travel and dance in the nave of Saint Eustache church.
12:30 a.m.: YETI LANE (Psych Pop / Clapping Music)
Among the labels we like, Clapping Music occupies a strong position and it is now Yeti Lane’s turn which latest album has been affected by meetings with Anton Newcombe (Brain Jonestown Massacre) or with Damo Suzuki (CAN).
2 a.m.: Petit Prince (Electro Pop / Pain Surprises Records)
Petit Prince found his way when he swapped the Conservatoire and cello against a Moog Voyager keyboard. His first EP “Deux Mille Dix” is out on the ebullient Pain Surprises labels, with electronic and hypnotic textures, his music is like a playground area for our imagination.
PROGRAM – WEDNESDAY JUNE 21, 2017
7 p.m.: PALATINE – bandpage (Folk Rock)
Only 1 EP under their belts, Palatine! Singing sometimes in French, sometimes in English with a tone sounding like Anthony & The Johnsons, the Parisian quartet offers us a folk and poetic promenade, tinted with New Orleans tones.
8 p.m.: JP NATAF (French Songs / Tôt Ou Tard)
From the Innocents via his band Red Legs with Jeanne Cherhal or his project called “Imbécile” carried out with Bertrand Belin and Barbara Carlotti, JP Nataf is a collaborative man turning everything he touches into gold. It was all natural to give him carte blanche for an evening with guests of his choice.
