If you haven’t heard about the young Israeli artist MAGI yet, on Friday June 21, 2019 from 9 p.m., head to the Musée d’Art et d’Histoire du Judaïsme courtyard.
For the 38th Make Music Day, MAGI will perform her Arabian electro show “Middle East and Beats”!
Stage named MAGI, Maggie Hikri grew up in a Yemeni neighborhood in south Tel Aviv in an Iraqi and Yemeni family.
Lulled by the sounds of the Yemeni liturgy from the family synagogue and Oum Kalthoum’s song listened by her grand-mother, the young singer is now taking back this music heritage in a great show, created after her meeting with guitarist and former Balkan Beat Box road sidekick Ron Bunker.
Waving high the flag of the fight for women’s empowerment, Middle East and Beats mixes hidden treasures of Arabian music with ancient Yemeni Jewish prayers, with rhythms at the crossroads between hip-hop, soul and electro.
And find from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. the mahJcafé in the courtyard. Houmous Jo and Rosa Pilpel will provide artisanal hummus and other treats inspired by Jewish cuisines.
Note that this concert is free of charge, without prior booking and as long as seats are available.
