Historical reconstitution weekend at the Musée de la Grande Guerre

Think a military camp from 1914-1918. This is what promises us the Musée de la Grande Guerre with its weekend of reconstitution schedules on April 7 and 8, 2018. Over 150 re-enactors from all over the world will put on their 14-18 uniforms to make us experience the life in a bivouac. Meal in a field kitchen, release of carrier pigeons, demonstration of gunnery operations, passionate people and families are expected with the WWI soldier on April 7 and 8, 2018.

Irresistible event for history lovers, the weekend of reconstitution held by the Musée de la Grande Guerre invites you to meet History in flesh and bone. On Saturday April 7 and Sunday April 8, 2018, meet passionate people wearing uniforms, discover their bivouac and share their meal, like in war time!

If the subject doesn’t give rise to smiles, 14-18 re-enactors are so passionate they allow children and the general public to discover more about the daily life during WWI. We find nurses, cotes, cooks and so on. The arrival of the participants is made by group, starting from 11 a.m. during the great convoy.

We attended it last year, and we loved the atmosphere:

Highlights of this weekend of reconstitution:

  • Walk-on actors parade:
Walk-on actors will parade with taxis, ambulances, Ford T… you’re expected on Saturday in Place du Marché in Meaux from 11 a.m. and Sunday at 11 a.m. Place du Marché in Beauval for a parade before making it to the Musée de la Grande Guerre.

This free event is the occasion to visit the museum with its wonderful collection. Soldiers in uniforms, reconstituted trenches with noise, it’s a big lesson about History provided to the whole family (from 5 years old).

We learn more about how the war started, why men had to leave, with what weapons they fought and how they did to wash… Everything to make the war more tangible for the generations that didn’t experience it!

Don’t think twice and go!
