Every year, the Château de Fontainebleau brings Napoleon 1ᵉʳ and Marie-Louise back to life during a weekend of historical re-enactment to celebrate the 210th anniversary of Napoleon Iᵉʳ's abdication. On Saturday, April 20 and Sunday, April 21, 2024, nearly 250 history buffs will take us back to the life of Napoleon's court, with a host of events in the gardens and within the château. Journey back to 1810!

Every year, the Château de Fontainebleau crosses the centuries to bring to life the daily life of Napoleon Bonaparte and Empress Marie-Louise, over the course of a weekend. This year, we look forward to seeing you on Saturday April 20 and Sunday April 21 to take a leap back in history.

More than 250 history buffs in period costume (the re-enactors) will take over the Château as they did in 1810, the year of the imperial visit to Fontainebleau.

For the record, Napoleon Bonaparte loved to stay in Fontainebleau: when he was only Consul, the Château de Fontainebleau served as the Ecole Spéciale Militaire. As soon as he came to power, he restored Fontainebleau to its former role as a residence, commissioning the architect Pierre-François-Léonard Fontaine to restore the period furnishings and carry out the necessary renovations.

By 1808, Napoleon was able to enjoy Fontainebleau with his court. He had the armoury bought to house his people, and imagined an English garden to warm up before the hunt! It was in this residence that Napoleon lived out his happiest hours, and the Reconstitution Historique lets you imagine it all!

During this immersive weekend, several activities are on offer: military demonstrations in the gardens and courtyards of the château, the installation of a Napoleonic bivouac, and the re-enactment of daily life in the early 19th century, thanks to the presence of small trades in the English garden. There's also a re-enactment of Napoleon I' s famous farewell to his loyal soldiers in the Cour d'Honneur, as well as scenes performed in the rooms of the Château de Fontainebleau to tell the story behind this historic moment.

Depending on the day and time of your visit, you can enjoy concerts, small reproductions of historic moments in the château, Napoleon's review of the troops (200 re-enactors in military garb will be on hand in the gardens to carry out manoeuvres all day long!

In short, an event not to be missed! Tickets go on sale in January 2024.
