Would you like to travel through space on a train withIron Man and Captain Marvel? Head for Avengers Campus, at Walt Disney Studios, Disneyland Paris, which from July 20, 2022 will be hosting Avengers Assemble: Flight Force, in addition to a Spider-Man attraction - Spider-Man W.E.B. Adventure - and a roller coaster in place of the Rock'n'Roller Coaster!
What's it all about? The ultimate experience for fans of superheroes and thrills! First, you're briefed by Iron Man himself (in animatronic form), dressed in his state-of-the-art Mark 80 wardrobe, for a high-flying mission; then, as the newest recruit to the Avengers, you board a vehicle straight from the mind of Tony Stark, equipped with a self-guiding device to ward off threats to Earth in the company ofIron Man and Captain Marvel. The attraction has changed its queue and preshows, but not the layout of the ride, which remains unchanged.
Note that for this experience, Brie Larson, who plays the superheroine in the last two Avengers films, as well as in her solo movie, has once again lent her voice to the Disneyland Paris attraction. This unique attraction features another Marvel character, theartificial intelligence F.R.I.D.A.Y..
Integrated into theAvengers Assemble: Flight Force façade, F.R.I.D.A.Y. will welcome new recruits, interact with them and announce Avengers arrivals and departures. F.R.I.D.A.Y. is exclusive toAvengers Campus Paris.
Our Review of Avengers Assemble Flight Force at Avengers Campus:
We had the chance to test this new attraction. Fans of Rock'n'Roller Coaster will find familiar terrain, as the layout remains largely unchanged, right down to the launch sequence with its signature countdown. However, we do have one small gripe—the trains, which have only been given a new shell. They look fantastic, no doubt, but the experience itself can be pretty rough, with intense jolts that shake the rider quite a bit. New trains would definitely have been a welcome upgrade...
As for thrill levels, they’re definitely present—since the trains shoot from 0 to 96 km/h in just 1.8 seconds before launching into the first, towering loop of about thirty meters. The acceleration is still as fierce and the ride as fast as ever, which is part of what makes it so exciting! The queuing area has also been completely redesigned, with a layout that’s distinct from that of the Rock'n'Roller Coaster.
On the pre-shows front, they're spot-on: we particularly appreciated the high-quality videos showing Iron Man searching for a superhero to help him fight the Kree. These videos are truly impressive, far above what Disney has offered in the past. The pre-show also features numerous references to other attractions from around the world, creating a seamless connected universe. The Iron Man animatronic is of a new generation—its gestures are fluid and convincing. The sense of urgency is palpable, from the last pre-show to the boarding platform.
Regarding the ride itself, note that following the addition of new effects—two screens and a starry lighting—we appreciated the ride much more, especially considering that it previously lacked effects (unlike the Rock'n'Roller Coaster, which originally opened in total darkness). These new effects add a layer of depth, alongside existing screens (a LED and several projection screens) depicting a space battle between Iron Man, Captain Marvel, and Kree missiles targeting Earth. For now (at least for us), we couldn’t distinguish between the LED screen and the projections, which speaks to the quality of the visuals. We also missed a line or two of dialogue that would’ve added more dynamism to the storyline and the rapid space race of the trains (though those lines have since returned... so all is well). Without revealing too much, we especially enjoyed the very end of the ride, with heroic shots followed by the train closing in on an epic finale. All in all, we loved it!
