As you stroll through the Jardin du Luxembourg, you may have noticed: if you entered from the RER station near the Panthéon, at the central water feature, children have fun setting in motion, hauling out and pushing little wooden sailboats, neatly named "the Luxembourg Sailboats".
Since the second half of the 19th century, Luxembourg’s small sailing boats have appeared in the garden’s basin: handmade, they have never left the spot and ride the winds—and the occasional mishap—especially when the weather is nice—into the hands of children. Little captains can, for half an hour, learn to sail on a small scale, using a wooden tiller to steer their vessel.
